"What are your challenges? What interests you about AI? What scares you about it? Let's start there."
— Teaching philosophy: meet people where they are

Three Tracks, One Community

Each track builds on the last — no one is left behind.

Track 1 · Weeks 1–4

AI Foundations

"What is this thing and why should I care?"

Wk 1
What AI Actually Is
Not magic, not evil, not new. A tool. Everyone asks AI a personal question live.
Wk 2
AI in Daily Life
Health, finances, meal planning, family. Each person solves one real task with AI.
Wk 3
AI for Communication
Emails, resumes, proposals, grant writing. Live: write a grant proposal in 5 minutes.
Wk 4
AI Safety & Ethics
What to share, what not to, how to verify. Everyone tries to "break" AI — builds healthy skepticism.

Track 2 · Weeks 5–8

Creators & Entrepreneurs

"Now let's build something."

Wk 5
AI for Business Ideas
Market research, validation, business plans. Validate an idea in 10 minutes live.
Wk 6
Building Without Code
Websites, apps, landing pages. Build a site from scratch using Replit or Lovable.
Wk 7
AI for Marketing
Social media, branding, content. Create a real campaign for their church or business.
Wk 8
Voice Agents & Automation
Phone agents, workflows, CRM. Group project: build an agent for a local business.

Track 3 · Weeks 9–12

Ministry & Community

"How does this serve something bigger?"

Wk 9
AI for Sermon & Study Prep
Research, outlines, cross-referencing. Prep a Bible study topic with AI assistance.
Wk 10
AI for Outreach
Event planning, volunteer coordination. Plan a real upcoming church event together.
Wk 11
AI for Education
Tutoring, study plans, career development. Students and parents build personalized plans.
Wk 12
Showcase & Next Steps
Community presents what they've built. Vote on what to learn next. The cycle continues.

Proposed Schedule

Suggested session formats designed to meet the community where they already are. All times and formats are flexible — the pastoral team and IT department will finalize scheduling based on what works best for the congregation.

From the IT Director

James Wilson's recommendation: Sessions can work best when paired with existing church gatherings — after a church luncheon, following a health ministries event, or alongside community programs where members are already present and engaged. This maximizes attendance without adding another standalone commitment to anyone's schedule. The goal is to integrate AI literacy into the fabric of what Oakwood already does, not create something separate.

OAA

Academy

Suggested: Bi-Weekly Fridays · 3:30–5:00 PM

After school at the academy. Could pair with existing STEM presentations or extracurricular programs.

OUC

Church — Flagship

Suggested: Saturday After Sunset · Post-Luncheon or Evening

Open community workshop following an existing church gathering — luncheon, health ministries, or fellowship event. All ages, all skill levels.

OCC

Pathfinders

Suggested: Sunday · During Pathfinder Hours

Integrated into Oakwood Christian Crusaders. Project-based, values-driven. Can adapt to existing Pathfinder calendar.

ADV

Deep-Dives

Flexible · Day & Frequency TBD

Advanced topics, 1-on-1 coaching, entrepreneurship workshops. Can be scheduled around ministry events or community interest.

All times are proposed and can be modified to align with pastoral guidance, ministry calendars, and community needs.

Shape This Program

This initiative belongs to the entire Oakwood community. Pastoral staff, ministry leaders, and community members are invited to contribute — whether it's suggesting topics, leading sessions, or sharing use cases from your ministry.

  • Pastor Kirk Nugent could bring powerful media & technology insights
  • Pastor Kimberly Mann could lead sessions on youth & family AI safety
  • Pastor Raphael could demonstrate children's ministry applications
  • Elder Taylor could share wisdom on community engagement

To suggest additions or volunteer to lead a session, reach out to James Wilson (IT Director) or contact the church office at info@oucsda.org.
