An Oakwood University Church IT Department initiative to bring AI literacy to the greater Oakwood community — church, academy, and Pathfinders.
Everyone is asking the same question: "Is AI going to take my job?"
The honest answer is nuanced. AI will add value in ways we're only beginning to understand. It will replace certain repetitive tasks. But there are things AI can never replace — your relationships, your discernment, your faith, your ability to ask the right questions.
The benefit of an initiative like this is that we help our community understand where AI adds value, where it replaces, and where it can never replace — based on how you position yourself and learn to ask the right questions. That knowledge doesn't just protect you. It accelerates the value you bring to any company, ministry, or community you're part of.
86% of students already use AI (Digital Education Council). The question isn't if — it's whether they learn with guidance or alone. This initiative provides that guidance, grounded in our values.
This is a collaborative effort. The IT Department leads the initiative, with pastoral staff contributing their unique perspectives and expertise:
All church-branded materials, community communications, and institutional content remain church property.
Curriculum design and instructional frameworks developed by Island Development Crew. Content shared with Oakwood first, then available for broader distribution.
